Am I addicted to gambling?

A gambling addiction test (PGSI)

Nine questions, about two minutes. The questionnaire gives a first indication of whether your gambling is in a risk range, and whether it’s worth talking to a professional.

It doesn’t replace an assessment. Your answers aren’t sent anywhere and aren’t saved. The score is worked out only on your device, and no one else sees it.

What to answer about: the past 12 months, and any kind of gambling: sports betting, lotteries, casinos, poker and cards, online gambling and other games of chance.

1Have you bet more than you could really afford to lose?
2Have you needed to gamble with larger amounts of money to get the same feeling of excitement?
3Have you gone back on another day to try to win back the money you lost?
4Have you borrowed money or sold anything to get money to gamble?
5Have you felt that you might have a problem with gambling?
6Has gambling caused you any health problems, including stress or anxiety?
7Have people criticized your betting or told you that you had a gambling problem, regardless of whether or not you thought it was true?
8Has your gambling caused any financial problems for you or your household?
9Have you felt guilty about the way you gamble or what happens when you gamble?

What the score means

  • 0 No signs of a problem

According to your answers, gambling isn’t causing you problems right now.

  • 1–2 Low risk

There are a few signs. It’s worth keeping an eye on how much time and money goes on gambling.

  • 3–7 Moderate risk

Gambling is already causing some problems. This is a good time to stop, set limits and consider talking to someone.

  • 8–27 Problem gambling

Gambling is probably harming you, and perhaps the people around you too. Professional help is recommended.

What now?

Any score is a starting point, not a verdict. There are a few simple steps you can take right away: block gambling websites and apps, don’t keep a credit card within easy reach, and tell someone close to you whom you trust.

If you’d like to talk about your result, you can call me. The first call is short and free of charge, and this can be treated without putting your life on hold.
