Guidance on treatment programs

In Israel and abroad

I recommend a program when I see that the chances of succeeding in outpatient treatment (treatment you come to from home) are too low.

That depends on several things: previous attempts, the level of motivation, strengths and capabilities, and how urgent things are when there is immediate danger. Sometimes close medical supervision is needed during the initial detox, and that’s a reason too.

Which program, and where

The type of program, residential or a day program, is decided by the willingness to enter a residential program, the severity of the situation and life circumstances. Between Israel and abroad, the decision depends on the level of English and on whether the situation allows a flight.

I work with several programs in Israel and abroad, mainly in Thailand, South Africa and Cyprus. I always offer more than one option, and recommend what seems most suitable for the specific case. In all of this, a lot also depends on financial considerations.

What I do at each stage

  • Before admission

I help with emotional preparation, with contact with the center itself, and with preparing the people around for the start of treatment.

  • During the stay

If the person in treatment wishes, I’m in touch with the staff, and we all meet together to build the exit plan: what will happen the day after, in terms of routine, housing and continuing care.

  • After discharge

You can continue therapy with me, or I can refer you to other continuing care.

What’s frightening before going in

Before entering treatment, people fear the unknown. These are the questions I hear, and what I answer.

What if it doesn’t work, and I go back to using?

There’s a chance of relapse even after treatment. That doesn’t cancel the progress that was made, and it’s part of the process. The chance that things will get worse without treatment is higher, and that’s what should concern us.

What if I want to leave?

You can leave. Most centers refund the proportional part of the payment, and it’s worth arranging this in advance.

How will I manage inside?

There’s a whole team there for support and immediate response, and I’ll be in the background too.

Get in touch

You can ask for help before you hit rock bottom. For yourself, or for someone close to you.

I’m available every day of the week. If I’m in a session and can’t answer, leave a message, and I always get back to you the same day.

A first call of 10 to 15 minutes, free of charge.

This website and my phone are not an emergency service. In a life-threatening emergency in Israel, call Magen David Adom (MDA) on 101.
